Just over a year ago Aaron Hickey burst onto the scene for Hearts with a number of impressive showings at the end of the 2018/19 season – one of which was in the Scottish Cup final defeat to Celtic.

Since then just about every football club on planet Earth is reported to have had an eye on him.

Well, that's maybe a slight exaggeration, but we're not wrong in saying the teenager is a man in serious demand.

Scouts have been to watch him from all across Europe with some of the biggest clubs in the continent said to be interested.

Hickey's rise to prominence has been very impressive, and it seems Hearts will have a real job on their hands to keep hold of him for the 2020/21 Scottish Championship campaign.

But where exactly could he end up? Here we take a look at all 400,000 clubs to have been linked with Hickey in the last year.

Celtic

This is the one that just won't go away.

Hickey came through the youth ranks at Celtic before joining Hearts, but the Parkhead club are clearly keen to take him back.

In fact, former Hearts manager and director of football Craig Levein said on BBC Sportsound that the Scottish champions tried five or six times to sign the full-back last season.

Bayern Munich

Reports emerged this morning that Bayern are very keen to secure Hickey's signature, and they want to offer him a VIP tour of the club in a bid to lure him to Bavaria.

Bayern already have young Scottish talents in the form of Liam Morrison and Barry Hepburn on the books, so a move for Hickey seems to fit in with their transfer strategy.

Lazio

Lazio are said to have made a cheeky cut-price offer for Hickey back in June which was swiftly turned down by the Tynecastle club.

The offer was rumoured to be just £89,000 with Hearts holding out for a lot more.

Newcastle United

The English Premier League side reportedly sent scouts to watch Hickey play for Hearts towards the start of last season – in October 2019.

They were said to have been in attendance at the 1-1 draw with Rangers at Tynecastle.

Aston Villa

It emerged at the weekend that Aston Villa were serious about a move for the 18-year-old.

According to MailSport Dean Smith's side had entered the race for Hickey, with a £1.5million price-tag rumoured.

Rangers

This one seems to have cooled in recent months, but Rangers were tipped to make a move in the early part of the 2019/20 season.

Shortly after joining as Ibrox sporting director Ross Wilson was said to have recommended a £2million swoop for the defender.

Rangers seemed to have moved on to other targets, however, with Calvin Bassey signed as competition for first choice left-back Borna Barisic earlier this summer.

Bologna

According to reports this week Hickey has been to have a "look around" at the Serie A club.

Bologna sporting director Walter Sabatini even hinted at a move for the defender, as the club's recruitment policy shifts.

He said: "It’s no secret we are looking for a full back and a centre midfielder because the team needs to be reinforced.

“From an economic point of view, we feel there is better value in the market outside Italy.

"If you want a tip about our next signing, I can tell you he will be a young player from abroad.

Chelsea

Chelsea have been repeatedly linked with a move for Hickey over the last year or so, with the Jambos youngster tipped to join fellow Scot Billy Gimour at Stamford Bridge.

Former Scotland striker Andy Walker even urged Chelsea to make a move.

In June he told Sky Sports: "Even this early in his career, I think Hickey would be a great option for Chelsea.

“There's no doubt in my mind that, in time, Hickey could follow the example of Liverpool's Andrew Robertson or Arsenal's Kieran Tierney and adjust from playing in the Scottish Premiership to thriving in the more demanding English Premier League.

“Given that he would be a very cheap option, in my view it would be worth it for Chelsea to take Hickey now and school him in their coaching system."

Manchester City

A report in the Edinburgh Evening News claimed that Hearts and Manchester City had held talks over a possible deal in December.

City have long said to have been keen on Hickey, and they are reported to have been watching his performances closely throughout last season.

AC Milan

AC Milan were credited with an interest at the start of this year.

Respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio named Hickey as one of two young defenders on Milan's shortlist to replace the departing Ricardo Rodriguez.

Southampton

Prior to his switch to Rangers Ross Wilson was reportedly considering a move to take Hickey to Southampton.

According to the Daily Record the Saints had been watching Hickey regularly, going as far back as the end of the 2018/19 season.

QPR

And last but not least, QPR.

Mark Warburton had Hickey watched during the 1-1 draw between Hearts and Rangers with a possible January transfer switch in mind.

The move failed to materialise, and things seem to have gone quiet on this one.

According to the Record Loftus Road scouts watched Hickey live at least four times.
